Jack Dale Hart was born at home in Filer, Idaho on October 24, 1932 to Myrtie Munger and William B. Hart. Jack joined siblings, Bill and Leona. Together the family moved several times. After leaving Filer, the family went to Idaho Falls, Mount Vernon, Washington and Reno, Nevada. When Jack was 14, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Jack would spend the next 23 years. After the move to Kansa City, Jack’s family situation changed and he found himself on his own, raising himself and making his own living.

Jack’s first job was as a bowling pin setter where he worked for food. While working as a busboy, Jack met Frank S. Land, a prominent Mason and the founder of the Order of DeMolay. Frank took Jack under his wing as a mentor and friend who helped shape Jack’s life as he travelled with “Dad” Land throughout the country organizing DeMolay Chapters. With “Dad” Land, Jack met presidents of the United States and many prominent leaders of the day. One of Jack’s favorite memories was meeting Walt Disney. Jack credits his years working with “Dad” Land and the DeMolay organization as a guiding force throughout his life.

In 1970, Jack received news that his mother and grandmother were in poor health and needed his help. “Dad” Land had passed way, so Jack made the move from Kansas City to Murtaugh, Idaho to care for his mother. Over the next 51 years Jack called Murtaugh “home.” Jack worked for several years at Interstate Battery and for nearly two decades at the Sears store in Twin Falls. One of Jack’s favorite memories with Sears was wearing the full-sized Winnie the Pooh suit in the children’s department for special occasions. Jack had a warm heart and sense of humor that brought life to his costume!

Jack’s life in Murtaugh continued the spirit of community service that he had acquired through “Dad” Land. Jack served as the mayor of Murtaugh, on the Murtaugh City Council, the Twin Falls County Planning and Zoning Board, the 5 county Snake River Water Resources Board and the Twin Falls County Comprehensive Planning Committee.

Jack was a member of the International Supreme Council Order of DeMolay as well as a life long member of Temple Gate Masonic Lodge 999. Through these organizations, Jack held several jobs and earned many honors.

On August 26, 2021, Jack passed away from lingering health issues at home surrounded by long-time friends and his beloved cat “Bird Dog.”

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Murtaugh Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23709 US-30, Murtaugh. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.  Services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert.
