Dorothy Geraldine Swanson, 97, of Rupert passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at in Meridian Idaho at Edgewood Care Center. She was born August 16, 1919 in York, Nebraska to Arthur and Lillie Colby Steube. She attended School in York and helped on the farm after the loss of her mother at age seven. She met and married Ralph Clarence Swanson on September 17, 1940 in York Nebraska. They moved to Rupert, Idaho on September 20, 1940 where Clarence started a life long career with Kraft Foods. They lived in Rupert, Rockland, Aberdeen and Hailey until her husband retired and they moved to Paul, and later back to Rupert. Dorothy really enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with her friends at the home. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Darrell (Hazel) Swanson of Statesville, NC, Dorothy (Leonard) Schafer of Burley, and Vickie (Tom) Lancaster, of Nampa, Idaho. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Friends may call Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. with a tribute to Dorothy beginning at 1:30. Burial will follow in the Paul Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
